We are joining in with European Mobility Week
One of our objectives is to achieve safe and responsible mobility. That is why, during European Mobility Week , we have prepared a number of activities designed to raise awareness among young children about the importance of a mobility that respects the most important standards of safety and the environment.
European Mobility Week takes place between 16 and 22 September. It is coordinated in Spain by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, under the slogan “Sharing gets you further”. This is intended to raise awareness of the negative consequences of irrational car use in the city and the benefits of other modes of transport such as bicycle, public transport or moving around on foot.
Our activities will extend all over Spain! For example, in Madrid, on Sunday 17 September, in conjunction with the City Council and the city's Municipal Police, we have organized a road safety education circuit with bicycles for young children along the Paseo del Prado. The children can take part in a road safety education workshop using iPads and then practice on the bike circuit supervised by the municipal police.
Our bicycle circuit encourages responsible, civic and safe behavior and attitudes towards traffic from the perspective of pedestrians and cyclists. In this way, youngsters get an introduction to recognizing and respecting traffic signals and rules which turns them into ambassadors for road safety among their family and friends.
The City Council of Madrid will cut traffic between Atocha and Cibeles to create the space “Pasea Madrid” (Stroll through Madrid), thus converting it into a pedestrianized zone with a multitude of activities: music, dance, skating exhibitions, puppet shows, firefighter activities… Get your kids to appreciate the benefits of the bicycle on our circuit!
The bicycle circuit will also be there on 16 and 17 September at Castro Urdiales, in the Amestoy Park.
Over the same period you can also visit our “Helmets with History” exhibition in Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz). The chosen venue is the Plaza del Arenal open from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00 on Saturday 16 September; and from 11:00 to 14:00 on Sunday 17 September.
The exhibition reveals how one of the most important pieces of safety equipment evolved: the helmet. Helmet users can discover how the first version of the motorcycle helmet was developed, initially invented to protect the head from the cold and grazes. Also on display is the first ever modern helmet and examples of how new technologies are incorporated into the latest helmet models.
Come along to some of the activities that we have organized for the whole family where road safety goes hand in hand with environmentally focused mobility.
Enjoy European Mobility Week with us!
Get moving, become aware, join in.
