The “Education for the Children of Mano Amiga School” project which is carried out by the Vis Foundation Brazil Institute, is aimed at reducing social inequity through education. It offers personalized training based on excellence, to 440 children and adolescents from the city of Sierra de Itapecerica, an isolated area with limited access to basic services, on the outskirts of São Paulo.
The aim of this project, which counts on the support of Fundación MAPFRE, is to enable the students to break out of the circle of poverty in which they live, and to gain access to a better future. The students’ courses are held in the morning and in the afternoon, and the school provides dining hall service and tutoring to those who have to remain at school the entire day.
The Vis Foundation Brazil Institute has been training students from the region academically for over six years and has also carried out important work reinforcing the students’ roles as citizens.
